I know we’re all virtual friends and that’s lovely, but wouldn’t it be nice to meet up I.R.L. (In Real Life)?
An opportunity is coming your way. The wonderful hosts of the Southern California Writers’ Conference (SCWC) have invited us (whether we’re paid attendees or just popping by) to come hear their final speaker of the day free of charge. Whether you can make Tom Huth’s talk or not, there is an O.C. Writers’ Meet Up in the bar afterwards. Come have a glass of vino or a cup of coffee with Megan, the conference hosts, and me. It’ll be a great chance to make new friends, keep the old, silver and gold and all that.
Due to space constraints, only the first 50 O.C. Writers non-conference attendees will be able to join Tom Huth’s presentation. If you would like to be included, please make sure you R.S.V.P. as soon as possible.
Please R.S.V.P. by Joining the Facebook Event.
Schedule:
- 12:20 – 1:00: Tom Huth
- 1:15 – 1:30: Conference awards and farewells
- 2:00 – 4:00(ish): O.C. Writers’ Meet and Greet
Location: Wyndham Irvine Hotel, 17941 Von Karman Avenue, Irvine, CA 92614
TOM HUTH is the author of the new memoir, Forty Years Stoned: A Journalist’s Romance (Heliotrope Books). A newspaperman by education and training, who started in his hometown of Detroit as a copy editor at the Free Press, Tome moved on to the Washington Post as a foreign-desk editor and feature writer during the Watergate years. In the 1980s he began freelancing, writing long-form articles for magazines such as Conde Naste Traveler, Travel & Leisure, GQ, Esquire, Outside, Men’s Journal, Islands, Fortune, Historic Preservation, American Way, the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, and the San Francisco Chronicle. His memoir not only “celebrates a life of high adventure guided by the inspirations and invigorations of smoking marijuana,” but chronicles the struggle care-giving his life partner, who was abruptly diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
