Sisters in Crime OC, July Meeting Invitation

By Pat H. Broeske

Hey, mystery lovers, Sisters in Crime Orange County will be meeting on Sunday, July 24, at 2 p.m. in Irvine. The public is invited.

sinc logo (2)This month’s guest speaker is author Lisa Brackmann. Her newest book, “Go Between” (Soho Crime), has its genesis in Lisa’s interest in our country’s “prison/industrial complex” – and especially, private for-profit prisons. The plot involves the intersection of for-profit prisons, big-money politics, shady non-profits and the war on drugs.

Lisa also pens the Soho series about Ellie McEnroe, an Iraq War vet who lives in Beijing. Ellie’s books debuted in 2010 with “Rock Paper Tiger.”

Sisters in Crime meetings open with a Readers or Writers Forum at 2 p.m. Lisa will speak at 3 p.m.

Meetings are held in the Community Room of the Irvine Ranch Water District, at 15500 Sand Canyon Ave., Irvine. It’s on the northeast side of the parking lot. (Disclaimer: Irvine Ranch Water District neither supports nor endorses the cause nor activities of organizations which use the District’s meeting rooms that are made available as a public service.)

And while we have your attention: The SinC O.C. annual joint luncheon meeting with SoCal Mystery Writers of America will be held Sunday, August 28, at 1 p.m., at our Irvine locale (see above). There will be an ATF presentation regarding a San Diego murder for hire investigation.

The public is welcome, but we ask that you RSVP – so that we know how much food to provide – at secretary@ocsistersincrime.org
